What’s this all about then?

Welcome to my page, and my very first post.. I’m excited to meet you!

All the time we spend online and on Social Media has made me reminisce about the ‘good old days’. (at the time of writing this, I’m 35, so it’s up to you if you think that’s ‘old’. Promise not to hold it against you.) I’m talking about the days before Facebook, before Instagram, Whatsapp, Kik, Snapchat, text messaging – before there were even mobile phones!! I know, I know – the horror!! ;o)

I thought about when the only way to catch up with your friends and find out what had happened since you last saw them (all those hours since school finished the day before) was to write a letter. An actual, pen-to-paper, hold-it-in-your-hand type of letter. We would fold them into all sorts of amazing origami style envelopes and keep them safely tucked away in our pockets  until the lunch bell rang, and we would finally be able to find our friends in the school yard to hand it over, and hopefully receive a letter of your own in return. I couldn’t wait to read my letters from my friends, and try to sneakily write a reply during class (don’t try this, kids!) so I could get a head start on the next instalment.

Thinking about this made me a little sad that my own children won’t have the chance to experience the same anticipation and excitement that I did in those days, now that they can text or call their friends the moment they think of something. But I thought I’d still try and hang on to it for everyone that reads this little blog of mine..

The idea here is that my posts will go live at lunchtime on the days that they’re posted – just in time for you to grab your lunch, grab a coffee, and sit down to read my ‘letters over lunch’. I’m looking forward to letting you all in to my world and I hope you will share, comment, and let me into your world a little too!

And of course, if you’d like to send me an ACTUAL letter, (OMG, I would love it!!) you could post it to me here:

Letters Over Lunch, PO Box 292, Balmain NSW 2041 (bonus points if it’s folded into an origami envelope!) ;o)

See you at lunch!!

Yes I remember those days well. And I was the lucky recipient of many of your letters – neatly written, long, interesting and funny. I still have them at home, at my dad’s. 🙂 Can’t wait ’til the next post!
